Atwater's Diaries 1782-1787

Noah Atwater was born in New Haven on January 3, 1752, and died on January 25, 1802. He married Anna Lockwood on Dec. 1, 1789.

Atwater was a  minister at the First Congregational church and a teacher. His diaries include detailed weather calculations as well as daily chronicles og the growth of his homestead, grafting of trees and especially his beekeeping. His entries also cover life in Westfield and his travels. His writing is sparse on personal relations and heavy on nature.  He records the temperature, but there were no standard measuring devices; he could have crafted his own.

His diaries have been transcribed, but there may be errors. Please contact the Westfield Athenaeum Archivist if you find any errors.
